Half term Egyptian fun at Bolton Museum

Families looking to fill the half term holiday next week should “walk like an Egyptian” straight to Bolton Museum, Aquarium and Archive.

From Monday, February 15 to Friday, February 19, the museum has organised a range of Egyptian themed activities for all ages.

On Monday, the Children’s Library is holding a storytelling and hands-on activity session from 10.30am to noon. The stories are Egyptian themed and participants will learn about Egyptian history.

On Tuesday and Thursday, Aquarium staff will demonstrate how they feed a group of freshwater fish whose natural habitat is the River Nile. Fish feeding takes place at 2pm on these days.

Each day throughout the week there will be activities in the Egyptian Gallery, such as a colouring table featuring ancient Egyptian drawings; a quiz; word searches and a spot the camel competition with a chance to win souvenirs from the museum shop.

Visitors will also have the chance to handle real Egyptian artefacts in the gallery every day from 1.30pm to 2.30pm and from 2.45pm to 3.45pm.

Those with a creative streak can get crafty every afternoon at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. On Monday, they can make an Egyptian wall picture; on Tuesday it’s Nile boats; canopic jars on Wednesday; authentic headdresses on Thursday and on Friday the theme is animals in Egyptian art.

Half term activities will also take place during the week at Hall i’ th’ Wood Museum but with a Tudor theme.

Tudor games and tours will be held from Tuesday, February 16 to Thursday, February 18. Admission is £2 for adults, £1 for concessions and free for children.
